Long Family Farm began with 160 acres purchased by Jake’s grandparents in the years following the Great Depression. Now, three generations later, this family farm has expanded to approximately 850 acres and continues to be home to multiple generations of the Long family.
Today, we operate a cow-calf operation that primarily features Black Angus cattle. Grazing plays a major role in managing our herd, which we supplement with hay and feed throughout the year. From breeding and calving to weaning, feeding, herd health, pasture management, and harvesting hay, we are involved in every aspect of raising our cattle.
This work requires plenty of equipment as well. Tractors, skid steers, hay equipment, feed trucks, trailers, and various implements are part of our daily life here and, as our followers know, sometimes become the stars of Faithful Farming.
The farm also provides a home for our horses and numerous other animals that have become part of our story over the years.
Jake’s parents still reside on the home place, and his dad maintains a small herd of his own. Our boys are growing up surrounded by their grandparents, working alongside their dad and Papa on the same land that their great-grandparents started farming generations ago.
Much has changed since those first 160 acres, but one thing has remained constant: Long Family Farm is still a family farm, built one generation at a time.
